2017 USATF New England

Mountain Running Circuit

 

The USATF NE mountain series wrapped up at Bretton Woods which offered three different races which could count toward scoring in the series.  The Ascutney Mountain race was dropped from the series, but will return in 2018 as a race director was found (and the race was in fact held in 2017 although not part of the series).  The series was scored in a “best 5 of 7” format.  In all 197 men and 110 women took part in the series. In addition 149 runners attained “Goat” status by completing 5 or more of the 7 races.  This entitles them to a lottery by-pass for the 2018 Mt Washington road race.  Eight of the Goats added on the non-scoring Mt Rosebrook ascent the day before the final series race.  The hardest of the hardcore were:  Barbara McManus (CMS), Kimberly Gordon (CMS), Dave Dunham (CMS), Heath Brewer, Bruce Christensen (Soundrunner), Chris Corradino (EORC), and Richard Mellor.

Brandon Newbould picked up his second series win and Christin Doneski picked up her third which ties for the most overall titles on the women’s side.
